Penndot Crews Out in Force, Repairing Roads During Deep-Freeze Respite

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is taking advantage of warmer temperatures to continue its massive pothole repair project.
If you're out driving on a highway this weekend, there's a good chance you'll see them. More than two dozen crews are on pothole repair duty, and Penndot's Gene Blaum says they're using the good stuff.
"The hot asphalt is a much superior product, and we are using that now because the temperatures are getting to the point where it's being produced and we're taking advantage of it. As the warmer temperatures come in, more permanent repairs are being made," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Still, he warns it's going to be a long time before all the potholes are filled -- maybe not until the end of April.
Blaum says they've used over 4,000 tons of asphalt since December 1st, more than double the amount of material they used over the same period during the previous two years.
