By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- According to USAToday.com, Penn State's head football coach James Franklin's $4.3 million salary makes him the eighth highest paid coach in college football.

Franklin, a Langhorne, PA native, is currently in his first season in Happy Valley. His 6-4 Nittany Lions qualified for a bowl game last Saturday with their win over Temple. Franklin will receive a $300,000 retention bonus and $200,000 bowl game appearance bonus, not equated into USAToday.com's $4.3 million salary listed.

Mark Dantonio ($5.63 million) of Michigan State and Urban Meyer ($4.53 million) of Ohio State are the only coaches in the Big Ten that earn more than Franklin.
