Students gathered at several locations at Penn State including Beaver Canyon and Old Main. Supporters chanted Paterno's name as well as "409," as they showed their support for the decision.

Paterno's wins were initially vacated as part of the NCAA's punishment for the school following the Jerry Sandusky scandal that rocked the university and the football program. The returning of the wins and the settlement reached with the school follow in line with the NCAA's decisions to roll back the sanctions, evident by Penn State's early return to bowl eligibility which came this past football season.
