Penn State Brandywine Campus Holds Free Flu Clinic

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) -- People were lining up for free flu shots in Delaware County Saturday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health in partnership with the Delaware County Council hosted a free flu clinic at the Penn State Brandywine Campus.
Senior Medical Advisor Dr. George Avetian says flu season is in full swing in this part of the county right now.
"Influenza activity is wide-spread throughout the state," he says. "These people that are getting the vaccine are a little bit late, but better late than never."
Avetian says a flu vaccination isn't just to protect the person getting vaccinated; it's also to prevent that person from getting the flu and passing it on.
"It's kind of like a circle of protection," he says. "Especially those that are vulnerable, the very young, the very old."
So why did some wait until mid-season to get the flu shot? One man said he was sent to the clinic by his wife.
"I was procrastinating," he said. "And I would have been kicking myself if I got the flu."
But Dr. Avetian says it's never too late for a flu shot as flu season can last until April.
