PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Penn State Brandywine kicked off construction of the campus's first residence hall and a new student union building after a ground breaking ceremony.

"We are the largest of the Commonwealth University College campuses. We have about 1500 students and we hope to expand that with the student housing, because of course we can get more out of state students, more international students, and more students who want the living experience. Even those who may live right around here in Media Pennsylvania," said campus Chancellor Kristin Woolever.

"Other campuses all have dorms which bring in way more students. They want to live on campus they want the college experience," said Olivia Shiner, the campus student body president.

The buildings are expected to be completed in August of next year.
