PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new three year, $8 million effort is underway to battle pancreatic cancer.

Stand Up To Cancer is an effort at several institutions around the country to find a cure or treatment for pancreatic cancer. Dr. Robert Vonderheide a professor of medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is one of the co-leaders.

"There are six clinical trials that are all centered on the theme of mobilizing the immune system against pancreatic cancer. They all use a slightly different approach and different therapeutic."

The program begins this summer.
