Investigators Plead For Witnesses To Come Forward In Deadly Bucks County Hit-Run Crash

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – A hit and run tragedy in Bucks County has investigators pleading with eyewitnesses to come forward.

Northampton Police Chief Michael Clark said, "We have several people who called in and said they saw someone on the side of the road, standing on the side of the road, so there's a good possibility someone may have seen something."

The crash happened at Jacksonville Road near Traymore Avenue in Northampton Township around 6:30 a.m. on Monday.

Police say 51-year-old Christine Witte had been fatally struck, but no car had stopped. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses described a silver minivan seen leaving the area and police impounded a similar vehicle they found in the nearby Warminster train station parking lot.

The Bucks County District Attorney's office says they believe the Dodge Caravan was involved in the accident and police have questioned the owner but, they say, damages to the minivan show the victim was lying in the road for some time before the minivan hit her.

"Everything is directly in the center of the car, in the lower portion of the car," Clark explained, "There is no damage to the right fender where you would normally see in a hit and run type accident where you'd have damage to the lower right fender or windshield or hood, there's no damage on the vehicle at all."

Police say, for now, the driver of the minivan has been questioned and released. An investigation is ongoing. Officials say they are waiting on autopsy and pathology test results to determine if other cars were involved.

Anyone with more information about a person or vehicle that may have been involved is asked to call 215-322-6111.
