Pedestrian Struck And Killed In Tacony

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle overnight while laying in the street in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 2 a.m. Friday near Longshore and Torresdale Avenues in the city's Tacony neighborhood.

Authorities say the man, believed to be in his 20s, was spotted laying in the street by a SEPTA bus driver and several passing motorists who stopped to check on him. They told police he appeared groggy and possibly under the influence or was suffering from a medical condition.

Police say the man was then struck and killed by a car.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver remained on the scene. No charges were pending.

Police continue to investigate.
