Pedestrian Shoots, Wounds Man Driving Car

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a driver was shot and wounded when a pedestrian opened fire on a vehicle that was backing down the driveway of a northern New Jersey home.

But a motive for Saturday's shooting in Paterson remains under investigation.

Authorities say the gunman was walking down Holsman Street around 5 p.m. when he suddenly fired multiple shots at the vehicle and then fled. Another vehicle parked in front of the house was also hit by the gunfire.

The wounded driver, identified only as an 18-year-old city resident, was shot in the upper chest. He initially tried to drive himself to the hospital, but soon stopped when he saw a police car.

The victim was treated for his wound and was released later Saturday.
