PECO Gets Big Fine After Gas Explosion Levels Home
COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - A settlement has been reached between the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and PECO, in connection with a gas explosion in July 2014 which destroyed a Coatesville, Chester County home.
The PUC's Nils Hagen-Frederiksen says PECO was converting a low pressure gas system to a higher pressure, and the home wasn't equipped for that. That's when the explosion happened.
Hagen-Frederiksen says PECO's mapping system needed to be upgraded to show all of its underground connections:
"That's one of the reasons why the settlement includes a substantial amount of money for mapping that will locate all of the facilities within PECO's system within a foot or so."
The settlement includes $3-million for mapping, $2.3 million dollars for infrastructure improvements, and a $900,000 fine.
