Paterno Drops Out Of Race For Lt. Governor

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Jay Paterno has dropped out of the Democratic race for Pennsylvania lieutenant governor.

Paterno, the son of the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, says conversation with his lawyers have convinced him that trying to overcome challenges to him nomination petition would be a long process that would distract from the campaign.

Paterno was one of six candidates vying to be the running mate of whomever is picked as the Democratic nominee in the general election.

Republican incumbent Gov. Tom Corbett has a longshot challenger who also faces a legal challenge to his nomination petition.
