Parx Bets On Mobile Gaming In The Casino

By Tony Romeo

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- Parx in Bensalem is signaling its desire to offer gambling on mobile devices in its casino.

During a presentation to Gaming Control Board members, John Dixon, the Chief Technology Officer for Greenwood Gaming, which owns Parx, suggested it's the next big thing in gaming to attract younger players.

He says slots players, like horse race fans, tend to be older.

"And much as we tried, it's been very difficult to get younger people interested in racing. And what we don't want is to see the same thing happen with slots, where slot players get older and older and younger people don't seem to be very interested in playing slot machines."

So the answer is to allow the youngins to play games on their own mobile devices or devices provided by the casino while they have a drink, have a meal, or socialize in wifi hotspots inside the casino.

Greenwood officials indicated they plan to seek approval from the gaming board for the new type of gaming in three to six months.
