All-Clear Given After Suspicious Package Prompts Evacuation Of NJ Military Base

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) – The all-clear has been given after part of a New Jersey military facility near Trenton was reportedly evacuated.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

The Joint Base McGuire – Dix – Lakehurst military base's commissary complex was cleared when word came in that a suspicious package was found in the area.

The Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Facebook page said: 'A suspicious package was found near the Base Exchange and Commissary. Both facilities have been evacuated. First responders are on the scene assessing the situation. We will keep you updated as more details become available.'

Earlier in the day, the Delaware National Guard announced it was increasing security after some potentially suspicious activity was reported.

The all-clear was issued around 5 p.m. Investigators on site determined the package was non-threatening, according to the base's Facebook page.

Investigators are still looking into the incident.
