Parents Need Permission To Access College Students Medical Records

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Three teens in Kentucky got a jump start of the behaving irresponsibly in college thing when they got so drunk at a high school graduation party they had to be hospitalized. One of the three, who is 18, was in serious condition with a brain bleed. Which reminds us: our kids behave so irresponsibly that it's easy to overlook the fact that if they're 18, they are underage drinkers but legally no longer minors. So under the law, parents don't automatically have the right to review their medical records without a HIPAA release form.

As for teaching them to behave responsibly once they're gone, that ship has already sailed.
