Parents Make Plans To Get Kids Safely To School On Frigid Morning

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Today's bitterly cold temperatures have parents and school officials preparing options for getting kids to school safely.
Oreland resident Betsy Lipp has two boys: Nick, who will be 14 in a couple of weeks, and Gabriel, who is 10. Lipp says her oldest son gets dropped off each day to school, but Gabriel normally takes the bus.
"He has band, so that requires me to drop him off with his trombone, so that is not a call I have to make."
But if she did have to make the call? "I would take him in."
And for parents who don't have this option because of their commute, Lipp says expect them to pull up their car right to the bus stop.
"You can take that to the bank in my neighborhood."
Principal of Good Shepherd Catholic Sister Patricia Healey says in her 42 years as a Principal, she never remembers a cold like this. Sister says she's worried about the bitter temperatures and icy roads.
"My concern of course is the safety of children and their health as well."
