Panel Discussion Aimed At Addressing Myths About Vaccinations Addressed At Conference

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Folks at this year's Pennsylvania bio life sciences future conference at the downtown Sheraton in Philadelphia did a little myth busting in regard to the flu and vaccinations.

Christopher Molineaux, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania bio life sciences future conference, says simply living in a first world country doesn't protect you from disease.

He says the goal of the influenza panel discussion was to inform folks about the flu and encourage more people to get a flu shot.

"That's why we hold programs like this; because folks take for granted their health."

He says there are a lot of myths out there about vaccinations:

"The flu shot does not cause the flu."

Kuznits: "what about Autism?"

"The vaccination does not cause Autism."

Panelist Dr. Michael Kurilla with the national Institute of allergy and infectious disease is says you need a new flu shot each year.

"Unfortunately the flu virus that comes around on in and will basis is slightly different it changes from year-to-year and so we have to change the vaccine."
