Paid Sick Leave In NJ? Legislators Will Take Issue Up In The Fall

TRENTON, N.J., (CBS) -- Look for a battle this fall in the New Jersey legislature over a proposal to mandate paid sick leave for just about all workers in the Garden State.
Depending on business size and hours worked, employees could qualify for up to seven days of sick time a year. Newark and Jersey City already have such a law on the books. Cherry Hill Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt is pushing the statewide proposal.
"Due to the fact that we've got two major cities that have adopted it, the time is right to bring some continuity and seamlessness to this issue throughout the state," Lampitt said.
Connecticut is the only state now mandating paid sick leave. Assembly Republicans are already coming out against Lampitt's bill, calling it "another obstacle to employment". The measure faces, at best, an uncertain fate, should it get to Governor Chris Christie's desk.
