PA Turnpike Now Accepts Credit Cards As Payment Option
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike has started accepting credit cards as a payment option at all toll booths.
In what turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo calls a "soft roll-out," the past two weeks or so, a new way to pay was activated at the toll booth.
"You can turn over your credit card. The collector can swipe it; give you a receipt for the toll," DeFebo said. "There's no extra fee. We accept all the major credit cards."
DeFebo said credit card payments can be made at cash lanes in all manned toll booths, including those on the Northeast Extension.
He said turnpike officials were running into drivers who simply didn't carry cash and had to fill out a form - essentially a promissory note - pledging to arrange payment of the toll later.
DeFebo said credit card transactions have dramatically reduced that paperwork and have speeded up the process for drivers to move through the toll booths.
Officials said all major credit cards are accepted.
