PA Turnpike Reopens In Both Directions After Dump Truck Brings Down Power Lines

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- UPDATE 6:24 pm: The Pennsylvania Turnpike reopened in both directions. It had been closed since 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning between Bensalem and the Delaware River Bridge.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is closed in both directions, causing major traffic backups.

The Turnpike is closed between the Delaware River Bridge and the Bensalem interchanges after the bed of a dump truck got caught in live wires during the morning commute.

Traffic was backed up for miles as maintenance and emergency crews responded to the scene.

Both eastbound lanes were shut down to allow westbound traffic to divert through the inner lanes which were under construction.

Authorities are estimating the closures to last until 2 or 3 p.m. Friday.
