Pa. Turnpike Begins Cashless Tolls Sunday At Del. River Bridge

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- On Sunday, the Pennsylvania Turnpike will launch its new cashless toll system at the Delaware River Bridge. Toll plazas at the very eastern end of the Turnpike will be reconfigured as well.

As of Sunday, motorists on the Pennsylvania Turnpike entering from New Jersey will pass under an electronic tolling gantry. E-ZPass customers will pay $5 dollars and cash customers will have a photo of their license plate snapped -- they will be billed in the mail for $6.75. It is a westbound toll only. Spokesman Carl DeFebo says the tolls will also be eliminated at the Route 13 connection. For a time, motorists will continue to pass through decommissioned toll plazas.

"And then customers proceeding westbound…will encounter what we call a new mainline toll plaza – that will be the start and end of the Turnpike ticket system. It's going to be called the Neshaminy Falls Toll Plaza, and it's a mile or so on the east side of the Bensalem exit."

A six percent hike in Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls also takes effect Sunday.
