Pa. Transit Ridership Falls, Bucking U.S. Trend
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — All aboard? Not in Pennsylvania.
The American Public Transportation Association says the state is bucking nationwide increases in public transit ridership.
The association's annual ridership report Monday shows drops by 2 percent in Philadelphia, 1.2 percent in Pittsburgh and 4.1 percent in Johnstown.
There were smaller drops in Reading and Williamsport and slight increases in Harrisburg and Beaver County.
The association also reported a 67 percent jump in ridership, from 802,000 to 1.3 million, on Amtrak's Keystone Service between Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
Across the U.S., the association says public transportation ridership reached the highest level in 58 years, with 10.8 billion rides.
