PA Man Found Guilty For Denying Care To Dogs Quilled By Porcupine

BLOSSBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania SPCA announced, on Monday, that a Pennsylvania man has been found guilty of animal cruelty in connection to a lack of veterinary care after two dogs were quilled by a porcupine.

Officials say Anthony Sautner, of Blossburg, Tioga County, had both dogs seized from his property on October 8, 2015 by the PSPCA. Ace and Dash had both been quilled by a porcupine and suffered injuries to their faces and their bodies.

Authorities say the quills were still in the dogs at the time of them being taken and it adversely impacted their ability to eat. Both dogs were rehabilitated with the PSPCA and were adopted.

Sautner was sentenced to pay $150 to the state, $200 to the PSPCA and he will serve 90 days prohibition from animal ownership.

"When an animal is injured, it is paramount that they receive the treatment needed to ensure their health and quality of life. We hope that through cases like this, and our mission to educate the public on humane treatment of animals, that cruelty and neglect can be avoided in the future," said PSPCA CEO Jerry Buckley.
