PA Lawmakers Send Governor Labor Dispute Bill, Wolf To Review

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) --  The Republican-controlled state legislature has sent Democratic Governor Tom Wolf a bill that would limit harassment and intimidation during labor disputes.

As the House gave final legislative approval and sent the bill to the governor Tuesday, the sponsor of the bill, Republican Ron Marsico, said his measure is a "public safety issue, not a labor issue."

"If a union organizer harasses workers, managers or their families, that is no longer exempt. But peaceful labor activity is unaffected,"  Marsico said.

Not so says Allegheny County Democrat Frank Dermody, the House minority leader.

"Let's face it, what really is going on here, is an attempt to make strikes, picket lines [and] demonstrations more difficult and expensive for organized labor," said Dermody.

All but one House Democrat voted against the measure.  As to the bill's fate, a spokesman for Democratic Governor Tom Wolf will say only that Wolf will review the bill once his gets to his desk.
