One Suspect, One Victim Dead After West Philadelphia Robbery Erupts in Gunplay

By Robin Culverwell

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say two would-be robbers got more than they bargained for last night in West Philadelphia when one of their intended victims had his own gun.

According to investigators, the robbers, both in their 20s, announced a stick-up of two other men, also in their 20s, near Media and Conestoga Streets.

But, police say, one of the men on the wrong end of the gun pulled a weapon of his own and there was a gunfight.  When it was over, that victim's friend was dead, as was one of the bad guys.

The other suspect was hospitalized in serious condition, and police say he'll face murder charges no matter what the ballistics show.

As for the intended victim who pulled his own gun, police say he will not be charged: he has a permit to carry his weapon.
