One In Seven Americans Suffers From Sleep Drunkenness

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Have you ever waken up in the morning very confused? Maybe you turned to the alarm clock, and instead of turning it off, you knocked it off the table.

Are you really out of it? This can occur when when people are very tired and they are woken up quickly. For some people it can occur everyday.

It's a phenomenon called "Sleep Drunkenness" or "Confusional Arousal." For the one out of seven Americans who do suffer from this, it's a major issue.

According to a report in the journal Neurology, 84% of people with sleep drunkenness or confusional arousal actually had another problem - a sleep disorder, a mental health disorder or were taking psychotropic drugs such as antidepressants.

When it is a problem that occurs on a regular basis, it is a big issue.
