PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The big Turkey Day cleanup is underway in households around the Delaware Valley and now, it's onto the shopping.

While some stores decided to remain closed on Thanksgiving, others – like those in the Willow Grove Mall -- opened Thursday, and attracted many shoppers.

2016 Holiday Mall Hours

"I'm looking for mainly clothes and shoes and accessories and stuff."

"Jackets and boots."

"Every year, we get the Victoria Secret gift bags and it has all the trinkets and stuff in it. It's fun."

"Just clothes. That's like the main thing that we are here for!"

"As always, sweaters and boots."

And while some who spoke with KYW Newsradio knew exactly what to pick out...

"I know my mom is really big into sweaters and stuff, and my dad is into vests."

…others were just hoping to get lucky with a deal:

"I didn't even look, really, quite honestly. I just thought, well ya know, as long as we are at the mall, we might as well just look. I think it's more for people with little kids."

Black Friday Safety Tips

Over in New Jersey, the Cherry Hill Mall officially opened up at 6 p.m., but some retailers there opened earlier, with people lined up to get in before that opening.

Some shoppers speaking with CBS 3 Eyewitness News admit they didn't expect the madness:

"The boots, they are only $20. The whole display fell on me because she was behind me, but my boots hit them and they fell all over the place behind me."

"I put my stuff down and said 'let's get out of this place."

Half of the people who talked with CBS 3 said shopping on Thanksgiving is now part of their holiday tradition. The other half said they were just sneaking away for a little and planned to spend the rest of the night with family.
