Old City Gets Into The Holiday Spirit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - 'Tis the season in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood.

For the next four Thursday's, beginning this week, they'll be offering special deals and extended hours at dozens of businesses.

Old City District executive director Job Itzkowitz says the holiday season and Philadelphia's most historic neighborhood go hand in hand:

"Old City is magical this time of year. I mean you really, more so than anywhere else in the city, get that feeling of a Dickens Village, but in real life."

Old City shops will stay open later during Historic Holiday Nights. Restaurants will offer deals as well. So Itzkowitz says grab a drink, take a stroll and check some items off your list:

"What we'd really like to do is for people to do some of their holiday shopping. We have so many independently owned businesses selling products made by makers based here in Philadelphia. It's a great opportunity to buy a unique gift."

The promotion runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. through the Thursday before Christmas.
