Old City District Launches Summertime Restaurant Promotion

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Old City District is launching a weekly summertime restaurant promotion beginning Thursday evening.

Job Itzkowitz, executive director of the Old City District, says Old City Eats is a restaurant promotion featuring half-priced appetizers and $5 drink specials on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

"This is Old City's version of a restaurant promotion," he said. "We no longer do Restaurant Week in Old City, but we still wanted to do something to support our restaurants."

There are over 30 participating restaurants. Among them, Nick's Bar and Grill.

"Little restaurants like ourselves weren't included with that (Restaurant Week) because our price points are a lot lower than a lot of the restaurants, so we weren't able to offer the three-course special, so I think that this is an awesome thing for every restaurant in the Old City area," said owner Joey Schultice. "We have our pulled pork nachos, which the pork is smoked in-house, and we have a bacon wrap shrimp with a red pepper aioli."

And neighborhood newcomer Jasmine Rice.

"We have Thai basil meatballs, spicy whisky wings, as well as crispy spring rolls."

Old City Eats takes place every Thursday through August 25th.
