Small Plane Crashes Into Creek In Allentown
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Crews rushed to the scene of a small plane crash in Allentown late Friday morning.
Chopper 3 was over the scene of the crash right off of Fish Hatchery Road.
Upon arrival, crews found the plane six to eight feet off shore with its nose down in the water.
Officials say the small plane crashed just before 11 a.m. into Little Lehigh Creek.
Authorities say the pilot was trapped inside, but was conscious and alert with no serious injuries. Crews were able to extricate him within 15 minutes and he was taken to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Medical Center in stable condition.
Officials say an unknown amount of fuel and fluids leaked into the creek as a result of the crash.
Hazmat crews dropped booms in the creek to prevent fuel from traveling down the stream. Officials say the fluids have been contained, but crews remain on the scene.
The crash happened about a quarter of a mile from Queen City Airport just off of I-78.
The incident is under investigation by the FAA.
