13 Students Hospitalized After School Bus Accident In Egg Harbor Township

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — At least 13 students were hospitalized following an accident involving a school bus on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of the Black Horse Pike and Fernwood Avenue.

Police say the 58-year-old school bus driver hit a Chevrolet Impala in the intersection. Both vehicles left the roadway due to the impact, police said.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

Thirteen of the students on board the school bus were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The bus driver was issued a summons for careless driving and failure to observe a traffic signal.

"The health, safety and welfare of our children is our first and foremost concern as we continue to monitor this situation. We will take all steps, including conducting any appropriate investigation to ensure that our students are safe when they are under our care," said the school district in a statement to CBS3.
