Officials Nab Shrimp Peddler Who Stole $500 Worth Of Crustaceans

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ (CBS) – Officials in New Jersey have netted what they referred to as a "shrimp peddler".

33-year-old Christopher Wells of Bayville, Nj was arrested for allegedly stealing nearly $500 worth of shrimp from the Shop Rite In Upper Township.

After an initial getaway, New Jersey State Police, with the help of Little Egg Harbor Township Police, used social media to track down the suspect.

Their investigation found that Wells was an alleged serial frozen shrimp shoplifter, who reportedly stole from other counties as well.

On a Facebook post, the department joked about the incident.

"Now, we had some fun pondering the possible motives of this connoisseur of crustaceans. It seems Mr. Wells may be reselling his bounty at a discount. We're looking into the demand for black-market shrimp, so stay tuned," the department said.

Wells was charged with shoplifting and released pending a court date. Charges are mere accusations and the suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty.
