Officials: Lightning Strike Damages York County Church Bell Tower

WEST YORK, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say lightning has struck a church bell tower in south-central Pennsylvania, sending chunks of brick and concrete onto the sidewalk below.

Officials say it happened Thursday as storms rolled through West York. Fire Lt. Tom Dunn tells reporters that the church has a lightning rod, but the bolt missed it and hit the top of the tower.

Dunn says firefighters inspected the top of the building and found minor damage.

No one was inside the church at the time of the strike and no injuries were reported.
