Man Dies Trying To Rescue Wife After Fire Sparks In Garage, Officials Say

DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) — An investigation is underway into a fire that left one man dead in Upper Darby. Officials believe the fire originated in the garage of a rowhome Saturday afternoon.

Crews were called out to the 6900 block of Aberdeen Road for reports of a fire at approximately 1:45 p.m. When they arrived, heavy smoke was seen coming from the home.

It is reported that two men were working on a car in the garage when the fire started. One of the men ran across the street to call 911 while the other went inside to get his wife out of the home.

Officials say she made it out of the home, but he did not and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two-alarm fire was placed under control at around 2:20 p.m.
