Officials Investigate Alleged Sexual Assault At Rowan University

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials in New Jersey are investigating an alleged sexual assault at Rowan University.

Dr. Joe Cardona with Rowan University says the incident took place last Thursday night into Friday morning, when a student who was drinking at an off-campus party decided she wanted to go home.

"She was by herself and someone from the party offered to walk her home, to be safe. She ended up in that person's residence hall and she awoke to being sexually assaulted," said Cardona.

He says following the incident, the student immediately went to Rowan's police department to report what happened, and she was taken to a local hospital to be treated.

"We'll continue to work with the student to try and get more details, and we know the residence hall where that person is," he said.

Dr. Cardona says the university and police are investigating the incident.
