Officer Opens Fire On Armed Suspect In South Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One suspect is in police custody and another is being sought after a police-involved shooting in Philadelphia Friday.

The incident happened at about 9:15 a.m. at the Tasker Homes in the 2200 block of S. 25th Street in South Philadelphia.

According to investigators, the incident began as a 911 call for the report of a person with a gun.

When officers arrived, they spotted two individuals matching the description of the suspects.

The officers approached the suspects and police say they began to run away. During the chase, police say one of the suspects pulled out a gun from his waistband.

A female officer was forced to discharge her weapon and fired one shot.

The suspect armed with the gun was taken into custody. The second suspect was able to escape and remains on the loose.

Investigators say a weapon was recovered at the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
