Ocean County Man Arrested After Reportedly Bringing Machete, Knives, Stun Gun And Other Weapons To Dance Recital

JACKSON, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey man faces weapons charges after he allegedly brought a two-foot long machete, two other knives, a stun gun, metal knuckles and pepper spray to a dance recital.

Jackson police say 53-year-old Lawrence Northrup of Manchester was taken into custody Saturday near Jackson Memorial High School. They went to the school after security guards said Northrup was acting suspiciously.

Authorities say Northrup never made any threats while at the school, but they have not been able determine why he was there. And they say that while he was being processed, Northrup tried to harm himself and had to be restrained.

He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, but further details were not disclosed.
