Non-Functioning Grenade Found On Temple Campus

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a non-functioning grenade was found near a hotel on Temple University's campus in north Philadelphia, leading to an evacuation of the area before the device was taken away by the city police department's bomb squad.

Philadelphia Police spokesman Lt. John Stanford says the department was contacted by Temple Police around 5:30 p.m. Sunday after the device was found. The Philadelphia police bomb disposal unit responded and determined it was a non-functioning device.

The university issued an alert to student and faculty around 5:55 p.m. to avoid the area around the Conwell Inn, before issuing an all-clear notice 12 minutes later.
