No Jackpot Winner, But Plenty Of Powerball Prizes In Pennsylvania, New Jersey
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With no winner for Saturday night's $950 million Powerball drawing, the jackpot has soared to a record-shattering $1.3 billion. Eventually someone will win the big prize, and even if you're not the lucky one, be mindful before you throw away your ticket, it could still be worth plenty.
No one matched all five white numbers and the red Powerball number, meaning the jackpot rolls over, but more than 900,000 Pennsylvanians and nearly 800,000 players from New Jersey won smaller prizes, with a single winner from the Commonwealth winning $1 million, an odds of 1 in 11.8 million.
"People are coming in, they're like 'hey, this is a luck store,'" said Priven Joseph, who owns a Sunoco gas station on Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
Joseph sold a million dollar ticket on December 30, which has boosted sales and helped building a King Midas reputation for his business that he hopes pays off on Wednesday night, the Powerball drawing.
What would it mean to sell that billion dollar ticket?
"It would be like wow, that's awesome," Joseph said. "We sold it out of our store."
With a 1-in-292 million chance to sell that ticket, odds are against him. But then again, Pennsylvania is a lucky state; 16 Powerball jackpots have been paid out here, more than in any other state.
