No-Fee Pet Adoptions For 'Empty The Shelter'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- On the last day of the year, a local organization is offering no-fee pet adoptions as they try to "Empty the Shelter."
During this past weekend, a successful one for the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT), nearly 200 animals found new homes for a no-fee adoption event called "Empty the Shelter."
It was such a hit, Ame Dorminy with the organization says the special's extended to six o'clock tonight.
"Every single life is a life worth saving," she says. "So we're super excited that the public recognizes that and wants to help us out and save lives."
Dorminy says there are plenty of options, not just cats and dogs. "Guinea pigs, rabbits, that kind of thing if that's something you're looking for."
Dorminy says they hope to add more adoptions to an already strong 2014. As of Tuesday night, ACCT reports there have been around 8,100 adoptions this year, compared to around 6,600 last year, and euthanasia dropped by 29%.
The shelter is at 111 West Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia.
