Tractor-trailer driver veers off NJ Turnpike in crash near Route 73 in Mount Laurel, police say

Major crash involving tractor-trailer blocks multiple lanes of NJ Turnpike

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (CBS) – A major crash involving a tractor-trailer blocked one of the New Jersey Turnpike's southbound lanes Tuesday morning.

The right lane and the shoulder of the highway were blocked near Exit 4 - Route 73 for several hours but all lanes have reopened, according to 511NJ.

New Jersey State Police said the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. when the truck veered off the road. The cab of the truck took out about 15 feet of guardrail along the turnpike and the driver became trapped inside.

Emergency crews eventually freed the driver and took him to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he's expected to be OK.

State police said the bed of the truck got lodged under the overpass. There's no structural damage, but it did take out some wiring and surveillance cameras, which are now being replaced.
