NJ Man Gets Jail For Attack, Shooting Near Child

WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after authorities say he choked his girlfriend and fired shots into the ceiling near her 1-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said that 22-year-old Donald Segar, of Newtonville, was sentenced in Woodbury Friday.

He was previously convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and weapons charges. Prosecutors say the attack and shooting happened in February 2013.

His defense attorney says the incident did not happen and was made up by his girlfriend's parents.
