Injured Bald Eagle Rescued After Being Stuck In Tree In NJ Backyard
PITTSTOWN, NJ (CBS) – First the chickens spotted the surprise guest, then homeowner Drew Daly's wife noticed our nation's symbol- a bald eagle- perched 50-feet up in her tree.
That was Monday- and for days- both Drew and his neighbor Bucky watched the bird from their backyards.
Bucky's daughter Anna even nicknamed the bald eagle Lilly.
And with an injured leg, the hope was it would eventually come down and feed from a trap experts set up in Drew's backyard.
But Thursday afternoon when Bucky got home, Lilly got spooked and flew away.
Minutes later though, the unexpected happened.
Crows overhead began making a lot of noise, and because the eagle is injured and weak, Lilly was found on the ground.
The majestic animal is now heading to a clinic where it will have blood work, x-rays and a complete medical exam, and hopefully the chance to make a full recovery.

"We quickly brought them back in so they wouldn't become a snack," Daly said. "We immediately called the wildlife folks and they were very responsive."
