NJ Girls Soccer Team Competes For National Championship In Texas

NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- Team members, coaches and families affiliated with a South Jersey girls soccer club are preparing to leave for Texas to compete in the U.S. youth soccer national tournament next week.

The members of New Jersey Rush, based out of the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township, are heading to Frisco, Texas for the event.

They're set to compete in a round-robin tournament that could lead to a championship match-up next Saturday, where the oldest trophy in youth sports is at stake.

New Jersey Rush coach Bill Shute said the 13-year-olds, many of whom have played together since they were nine, have adopted a winning attitude that includes understanding the little things matter.

"That things as small as perfecting a touch on the ball or the way they lace up their shoelaces or the way that they treat each other. They believe that it all matters," Shute said.

And, he said, the many life lessons the 17 players have learned include bonding as a family of sisters.

"It's a lot different when you're playing in these contests when you're looking side-by-side at your sister as opposed to just a teammate."
