NJ Gets More Time To Set Affordable Housing Rules
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey's highest court has given the state a little more time to come up with new requirements for affordable housing in every community.
In a ruling Friday, the state Supreme Court gave the state's Council on Affordable Housing until Nov. 17 to adopt the rules and have them published in the state register.
The schedule is still ambitious but is a reprieve from the one ordered by a lower court a week ago. The lower court had mandated that the rules be adopted in May and told the council exactly when to meet.
Gov. Chris Christie has previously tried to abolish the housing council, but the court has nixed that.
