Ninja Turtles Return At Top Of Box Office

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Those turtles are out of the shadows, all right. The sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, emerged victorious in the weekend box office wars, earning an estimated $35-million in its debut.

Third place went to the debuting romantic drama, Me Before You, which took in $18-million. And fourth was the returning Alice Through the Looking Glass, with $11-million.

The weekend's other new mainstream release – the music mockumentary, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, with Andy Samberg – debuted with a modest take of $5-million, good for an eighth-place finish.

Overall, industry-wide totals were below both those of last weekend and those of a year ago.
