NFL Players Will Wear Sensors To Track Advanced Statistics

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- As if we didn't have enough NFL analysis and statistics with instant replay, NFL Redzone, fantasy football, NFL Game Rewind, ridiculously long pre-game shows, and on and on, there's more. The NFL is beginning their process in changing the way fans and teams monitor players.

As first reported by USA Today, the NFL has partnered with Zebra Technologies, and now every player to wear two small sensors in his shoulder pads this season. The sensors RFID sensors will track advanced stats like speed, acceleration, and separation.

This is the first "live" phase of a project. NFL teams will not have access to the in-game information this season, as the league will monitor the data during the first phase.

The NFL hopes to enhance the in-stadium experience using this technology as well, in the future.
