NFL Legend Franco Harris Visits South Jersey High School For Special Celebration
MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (CBS) -- An NFL Hall of Famer visited his former high school in Burlington County, New Jersey and gave the school a special gift for its trophy case.
Franco Harris was a star running back at Penn State University and a four-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But before his success at the college level and in the NFL, he was a student athlete at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly.
"To be able to come back, it just brings back great memories," Harris said. "My football career really started here."
Harris visited his alma mater Tuesday night during a basketball game as part of an initiative for the NFL's Super Bowl 50 celebration.
"As part of the celebration they are giving every high school of a player that played in the Super Bowl a gold football to celebrate and honor the player that played in the Super Bowl."
Harris is widely known for the "Immaculate Reception," one of the NFL's most famous and controversial plays that lifted the Steelers to a playoff win over the Oakland Raiders in 1972.
