New Year's Resolutions Can Be Emotional Or Physical

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--It's hard to make resolutions for the New Year when you're battling a serious illness.

It may seem pointless to make resolutions when sick, but you can take steps to bring more joy and peace to your life says Dr. Lynn Bornfriend, a psychiatrist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia.

"Spending some time thinking about what brought you joy, or what was a wonderful distraction from your illness, at the end of the day when you looked at the mirror you were able to say this was good, talking about things you don't want to miss and making sure you don't miss them."

If the diagnosis is poor, resolve to tell important people things you want them to know write letters or make videos of thoughts that can be cherished forever.
