PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Year's Eve is still a big event on the social calendar. Just try getting a reservation at a restaurant this evening.

I certainly have no objection to this. It is a great thing that people can go out and celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another.

But, you know where I get concerned? The fact that many revelers will be drinking and potentially driving. This puts everyone at risk and each year we see the grim statistics. One piece of advice is simple -- don't drink and drive.  But the next few warnings you may not have thought about.

If you or your family is on the road please wear seat belts and be particularly cautious. Also, if you plan to stay home and have alcohol as part of the celebration make sure that you don't leave open bottles around -- especially if there are children in the house. Celebrate if you wish, but use common sense.
