New Virtual Reality Exhibit At Franklin Institute
FRANKLIN INSTITUTE (CBS) -- Virtual reality has arrived in Philadelphia. The Franklin Institute opened a new exhibit Tuesday night called the 'holodeck,' which uses VR technology to let visitors experience science in a whole new way.
KYW's Pat Loeb put on the headset and was inside the space shuttle, okay, perhaps not, but virtually she was because of the virtual reality technology featured at the new exhibit.
The feeling of being in the space shuttle is just one of the experiences you can have on the holodeck, or at one of three other VR stations at the museum, or through a just-launched app the museum released.
Susan Poutlon is the chief digital officer and said they have more options than just a space shuttle.
"We have about 20 experiences from NASA and then in our planet earth category, really excited to have an exclusive video, which is only the second deep sea virtual reality experience ever recorded."
President Larry Dubinski sees it as a natural extension of the Franklin's mission.
"Institute exhibits are hands-on and immersive and this just takes it in a different way, utilizing the latest technology and technology that we know is continuing to change."
The exhibit is included with regular admission.
